Free Fire Recovery Tools
We built these free tools because we saw families losing money by not tracking expenses and calls. After a fire, your insurance company expects documentation for everything — and the families who track things carefully get reimbursed faster and more completely. These tools make that easy.
They're free — no email required. Just open or download and start using them today.
Emergency Expense Tracker
Track every out-of-pocket expense during your fire recovery — hotel stays, meals, clothing, gas, and more. Your insurance policy includes Additional Living Expenses (ALE) coverage, but you need receipts and records to get reimbursed. This spreadsheet makes it simple.
Insurance Call Log
Document every call with your insurance company — dates, who you spoke with, their direct number, reference numbers, and what was said. This log has saved families thousands of dollars by providing a clear record when the insurance company 'doesn't have notes' on a conversation.
Recovery Timeline Checklist
A phase-by-phase checklist that walks you through the entire fire recovery process — from the first 24 hours through moving back in. Know what to do, when to do it, and what not to miss.
Tips for Using These Tools
Expense Tracker Tips
- Start tracking from day one — even if you think the expense is too small. Hotel, gas, meals, toiletries, pet boarding, and laundry all count.
- Take a photo of every receipt and save it in a folder on your phone. Insurance companies can (and do) ask for proof months later.
- Your ALE coverage usually equals the difference between your normal living costs and your actual costs while displaced. Track both.
- Review your policy's ALE limits early — some policies cap daily meal allowances or total ALE spending.
Call Log Tips
- Write the claim number at the top of the log — you'll need it for every call.
- Always ask for the adjuster's direct phone number and email. Calling the main line wastes hours.
- At the start of every call, ask for the representative's full name and a reference or confirmation number.
- If an adjuster makes a verbal promise (like approving an expense), note the date, time, and exact words. Follow up with an email confirming what was said.
Recovery Timeline Tips
- Print it out or keep it open on your phone. The first few weeks are chaotic, and having a checklist keeps things from falling through the cracks.
- Don't try to do everything at once. The checklist is organized by phase for a reason — focus on the current phase.
- Share it with your spouse or family member so someone else can help track progress.
